As we all know, some days the bike just wont do, or you fancy a change from riding round on roads that you already know.
This page is here to inform you of other things that we have been up to. Ok some will still involve bikes, but others are totally bike free.
The activities do however come with the guarantee that at least one of our team has tried it out before it is listed on this site.
Please inform the following companies that heard about them here when you contact them.
Shoot the Line is a company that sets up and runs clay pigeon shoots.
For those of you who are not familar, this is target shooting, using moving clay targets and shot guns.
The clay targets are launched from a number of 'traps' to represent the various game animals. Such as game birds like pheasants and grouse etc. They also use clays that are launched across the ground that are called 'rabbits'.
Dont worry, no animals are actually hurt during these shoots.
One of the reasons that we feel that this sport is useful to try is that it really helps you to tune your reflexes and your hand eye co-ordination.
Not only that, but for those motorcycle wives, who feel that they dont see their 'other half ' due to the 'bike', it is a great day out for all the family.
Shoot the Line is probably one of the few companies that can and do cater for all, men, women and children, regardless of your experience or ability. If you have never shot before, they will professionally tutor you, included in the price. Unlike some companies that will simply hand you a 12 bore and point you in the direction of the clays. Shoot the Line have invested in several different shot guns, varying in size and power so even kids can have a go.
The Shoot the Line Team
As Shoot the Line is a family run company with children of their own, so they encourage kids to have to a go.
Safety is paramount so an experienced tutor is always on hand.
Although the aim is to teach people to respect guns and still have a fantastic day whatever your age, they do have strict rules to follow to ensure that everyone remains safe.
We came across i2i when we saw an article in a local paper about some skills courses that were being run in conjunction with the North Yorkshire Council.
We weren't sure what to expect on the day but decided to give it a chance, I guess curiousity won.
We arrived at Tockwith Airfield (nr York) on a rather damp day. Much to our dismay we were told we would be learning braking and cornering techniques. This did worry us slightly in the less than perfect conditions.
Tom the i2i instructor did wonders for our confidence by actually demonstrating everything we would be asked to do on his own bike, an absolute gem of an R1.
He also explained the physics behind all of his tuition in an unusual but extremely interesting way.
After completing the first part of the Pro Skills series, we are booked on the second part in June.
We can not begin to say just how much fun these courses are.
We would definately recommend booking yourself on at least one of their courses, you will learn a huge amount about yourself, your bike and your capabilities.
Even on a rather dismal day, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. These courses are incredibly good fun, and much of this is due to the fairly light hearted way of getting across a serious message.
Although i2i are linked to road safty campaigns, don't let this put you off.
You will learn how to be more aware and therefore more alert and prepared and so safer on the road.
You will also learn how to be much smoother in your braking and cornering etc, a by product of this is that you will become faster and more confident.
So no more wobbling on corners worrying that you are on the limit of your tyres. You will simply glide round, knowing that you are safer. Above all you will enjoy yourself more.
